Finally bless myself today.

Went shopping with my CG members, Sjeting and Jasmine at Bishan, Junction 8.

Went to the famous Roti Prata Store at Thomsom Road to eat. When we reached there, I realised I forgot to bring cash with me. I was like, "ARGH!!!" The nearest DBS ATM is one bus-stop away at Thomsom Plaza. I didn't bother to wait for the bus (1 stop only), so I get there as fast as I can, withdrew the money and got back, sweating. Sjeting and Jasmine were like, "Did you ran there?" Nope, I didn't. Briony and Cinthia will know very well that I am a sweat machine (but I don't smell bad). Hahaha. Both of them agreed it's the best prata they have eaten. (Special thanks to Cinthia who brought me there in the 1st place. Also, I still remember that I wanna bring you there Briony!!!)

Later, Jasmine went off to joined her friends at City Hall, I continued to shop with Sjeting and went to Lot 1 to get the Levis jeans that she saw yesterday.

Seiyu is having SALE right now. Levis Jeans are going as low as $35! Hahaha. Sjeting wanted to get the one selling at $35. The cutting is pretty good (cheap but Levis after all, hahaha) and Sjeting tried it out and it looked good on her. It fits her legs well, brings out the shape and the lenght is just nice! Since she like it so much I decided to bless her. Hahaha. Oh wells, my motto for living, "Others above self."

Shopping with Sjeting is also quite enjoyable, she pointed to me many clothings that she felt looks young yet fits me. I decided the clothes from Man Studio and Samuel & Kevin probably looks good on me, but I don't really like to spend too much on myself so I didn't get any new clothes.

However, there is this Kappa bag in Seiyu that looked pretty cool and it kinda suit my shoes. Even Sjeting thinks it look good on me. I went to tried it on, felt it look good too and decided to buy it. THERE, I finally bless myself (I also bought a bermudas last week but that one was really cheap compare to this bag). Hahaha. But that probably the last piece of item I will get for myself for this month.

Thank You Pastor Kong.

With effect from 1 Nov 2005, Rev. Kong Hee will be named the Honorary Founder/Senior Pastor of City Harvest Church. What does it mean to be "honorary"? It means that pastor is still a board member but he will no longer be paid by the church.

Why does he do that?
Pastor felt that as the leader of the church, he need to lead by example in one of the greatest building fund we ever had, he relieved the church of having to pay him his salary for the next few years until the completion of our new church building so that every cent can go towards its funding.

When pastor anounced this to the church during the weekend, I took a deep breathe and almost cried (but i didn't because I fought back my tears). Although I don't know pastor personally, he had being the motivation behind this church that had changed and blessed me so much. I can see the sacrifices he made over the years, his teaching had taught me to experience God for myself.

The moment when he revealed the news, I was so happy, so sad, a mixtured of feelings, the thought that go through my mind, "Pastor you are so great!" "It shouldn't be you, it should be us..." So contradictory, yet, truly, I am touched by what he does.

Thank God for City Harvest Chuch. Thank God for Pastor Kong. God is good.

Exams are over!

Finally, the stressful week is over, and I just realised that my headache is not due to the stress, it's due to the eruption of wisdom tooth at the upper left jaw. I can't open my mouth too big or it will hurts. Sometimes, the pain will radiate to the left temper and feels like a headache. But there is a possiblity that it could have being worsen by the stress.

Finally I treat my CG as I had promised, treat them to KFC. Later I went shopping with Sjeting and Jasmine at Choa Chu Kang Lot 1. It's only a pretty small heartland shopping mall but every shops are having SALE!!! With me around, anyone can really enjoy shopping (Briony said so) and we shopped from 330pm to 630pm!

I was really happy cuz I found some nice clothes for my friends and family members (YES, I am blessing others again.), I also decided to buy a couple of clothes that Sjeting and Jasmine like for them. The 2 of them are happy of cuz. Hahaha. Tomorrow we are going out again, going to Bishan this time and after shopping, I will be bringing them to the Roti Prata Store at Thomsom Road where Cinthia had brought me to. Hahaha.

Cinthia and Briony are always saying that I always think of my friends. Well, Pastor Robb Thomsom mentioned that making friends is never cheap. If you don't sow in people now, you will not reap relationships in the future. No man is an island, so i guess that's what motivates me to be generous.

Jesus said "... when I am hungry, you fed me... when I am naked, you clothed me... for whenever you did these to one of the least, you did it on to me..." (This verse reminds me of Cinthia.... Just kidding. Hahaha. :P) Of cuz, I believe it does not just apply to the needy, in general, this verse is telling us to be GENEROUS. Hahaha. God is Good.

Ok. For you who knows I have being having headache for the past few days, I am still having it now, thanks to the eruption of the wisdom tooth. This is the 3rd time my wisdom tooth erupts, the last 2 times is on the upper and lower right jaw. The whole thing will take about 2 months so headache may just be frequent. But since now I am not stressed out, I should be able to handle it pretty well. Thanks to Cinthia for showing concern regarding this throbbing headache.

Ya Ya. I can personally see that it's added. BUT I LOST ALL MY PREVIOUS COMMENTS!!! sob sob...

Driven by Stress

Have I ever told you before? I am a stress-driven person. I strive on stress to be productive. Hahaha.

Really stress out this exams. I was not feeling well the day before the exam and I couldn't even concentrate on my revision. Then on the exam day today, it turned out to be one of the hardest paper I ever taken in Poly!!! Argh!!! Hopefully I wouldn't do too badly.

I was so irritable since yesterday, almost anyone or anything can just piss me off. Which is why I choose to be alone but I ultimately shared my stress with a friend I can trust, Cinthia (cuz she happen to study in the same school so we could meet up), and I got to say I am sorry to her for putting up with my irritablilty and outburst (even thou she said I look "OK" when I burst out).

Always got to put on a smiley mask you see. Even thou you can be angry or stress or easily irritable at that period of time, you can't just go around screaming and scolding everyone on your way. People will just think you are crazy, and probably will never come near you again for the rest of your life.

Thank God for close friends whom allow you to put away that mask. Had shared both my happiness and woes with Briony and Cinthia, and of course with God. Indeed like Cinthia said, hiding your emotion too often is going to hurt yourself. So I don't intend to. Hahaha.

Anyway, as stress as I was, I can still put on a smile to most of my other friends. And I do strive on stress! Today is the 4th time I played the guitar for CG meeting, in fact, I was still pretty stress out but I just happen to be most satisfied with my guitar today! Hahaha.

Compared to the past few times, today's guitar was so much better, no sudden speed up or changing my pentrum on the last minute. My CGL actually allowed the praise and worship to be much longer today, allowing me to enjoy the presence of God as I played the guitar. I closed my eyes and forget about my exams, sing and strum and start rocking my body with the rhythm. The atmosphere was so good, the presence of God is soaking my every being, I prophesied by singing 2 times today. God is good. Hahaha.

Comments about Xiaxue's blog...

Since Briony had did something to the names for our Blog Link, I decided to do the same. Hahaha. (Briony and Cinthia! Scroll down and see what I had done!)

I have just read Xiaxue's blog about the use of toilets for the disabled and was pretty put off by the way she put down the disabled.

As a nurse, our sole duty is to assist patients to get back to normal life as much as possible and educate them to adjust to their new situation and help themselves. However, we have to be aware that disabled patient's no longer can live their life as a normal person do. Frustration is natural if you think about the extra work they have to put in just to get out of bed and move around on a wheel chair.

And now, someone insensitive and selfish like Xiaxue have to ridicule them by saying that their disability is just like "a broken leg", disablitly not = "small bladder"? Even the fact she's angry or annoyed, the use of such terms are so demeaning, it directly insults the disabled.

In case you're are not aware, many disabled people, especially those who had an amputation done on their legs, had their legs amputated mostly due to complications of Diabetics. Diabetic patients DO have problem holding their bladder!

Should we as a people allow such behaviour to go unchecked?

Exams. 1 Down 2 to Go.

Ok. Not really blogging this much. Finally cannot fight the urge to blog. Hahaha. But today is a relief, one paper down. It's the bioscience paper and it wasn't as challenging as I expected. Thank God whatever I revised came out.

Anyway, being going out to get things that I need and also to destress. Hahaha. Monday went to get some nursing book at Novena, manage to get a pretty neat Medical Surgical Hand Book, it's small and handy.

On Tuesday, went to study in the school library, sat down and studied from 11am to 5pm!!! WOW!!! Never done that in my whole life. Hahaha. Went to Toa Payoh gym with Cinthia (for our weekly regime), used the stair-climbing machine until my legs muscles all bulge, very painful. But a good cooling down and stretching prevented any leg cramps cramps today.

But I think the best thing was to buy presents for Briony, Cinthia and my Mum. It was a happily given happily recieved situation. Hahaha. Both ladies are happy. Then my mum... All I can say it is a very timely gift.

When I was shopping for the present, my mum called me and she was almost shouting over the phone. Yup, I quickly guessed it's that time of the month again. When I surprised her with the gift (it's a tee from Giordano), she significantly slimmered down and was actually quite happy. Hahaha. So I was telling Cinthia and Briony that it was a "timely" present.

Ok... really so tired now... Gotta go. Share with you a verse that came to mind when my mum recieved the present.

Proverbs 21:14
A gift given in secret soothes anger, and a bribe concealed in the cloak pacifies great wrath.

I Wanna Say Thank You...

I just feel like specifically thanking these people for being there, people who make me the person I am today. Since the day I came to know Jesus, I really thank God that He make no man an island and he sent these people to sharpen me. (Thanks to Blog to be able to put up a dedication post like this.)

In chronological order.

Thank you Samuel See! For inviting me to church when others rejected me. If not for you, I would never have known the salvation of Jesus. Thanks also for always believing that I will become a better man. I will never forget that you were the 1st person to say to me, "I believe in you." Hahaha.
You happened to be the 1st person to teach me to play the guitar too, to play G, Em, C and D. Thanks for your patient choaching.

Thank you Sng Ziqin! For following up on me back in N41. When no one really bothered with me, it was you who faithfully called up and spend hours on the phone every week listening and chatting with me. You do play a part that I did not backslide back then. Hahaha. Yes, I will always remember, you called me, "The man of revelation" because I was so hungry for the Word back then. Hahaha. In the spiritual realm, we are true brothers in Christ for we were both baptised on the same day, 17th December 2000. You are in that sense, Brother Abel to me. Hahaha. I hope to meet up with you more often after your army. Perhaps, you can get to know my new friends whom I had made recently. They are wonderful people, Briony and Cinthia.

Thank you Catherine Lee! For being the cell group leader who treated me as a friend. Even though I was so flawed back then, you still believed that I can do great things for God. You "comissioned" me to help out in CG and let me opened my eyes to see what God can do through me. Thanks for always listening to my problems and being a great mentor and friend. I will never forget that you said, "It is weird people that God likes to use." Hahaha. Yes, I admit I was pretty weird back then, if not for your belief, I wouldn't be the person I am today. Thanks also for being patient with me, forgiving me for all those silly mistakes and also the castatrophic ones that hurt you so much. I have learnt the value of forgiveness from you.

Thank you Irene Ho! As my current cell group leader for the past 2 years, you have being really patient with me. Your patience have taught me to tone down my temper and taught me to commune more effectively with people, I will remember you said to me, "There will be times when you are angry, but to be a good leader, you must never express your anger as and when you like or else you will lose the respect of the members." Thanks for all your appropriate encouragements and scoldings, thanks for believing that I am teachable and being strict with me. Thanks for the giving me the opportunities to do something for the CG and Church. I really like the role of being the CG guitarist.

Thank you Cinthia Lim (Siew Teng) :P! For being the friend whom I always hope for. Someone who can stand my craps yet also can talk about spirtual stuff with. You are a person full of joy, whose smile can truly brightens my day. Hahaha. I know there are times where you are also down of cuz, but your effort to be positive was a great attribute. I will never forget that you sms me to say, "I also thank God for a helluva friend like you!" For that was the first time I remember someone thanking me for being a friend to them. Hahaha. And yes, thank you for being the 2nd person who patiently taught me to play the guitar. If not for you, I can never played a decent piece of praise or worship. Many others had tried to teach me, but they just quickly demonstrated and started playing on their own, which I can't learn much. First knew you on 12 June 2005, during the blood donation drive at Gek Poh CC.

Thank you Briony Guntz (Oh no, I can't spell your full name!!! Sob sob... :'( )! For being the friend whom I always hope for. Someone who I feel free to talk with, who is not critical about others and always having a pleasant deposition. It is not easy to find someone who I can talk freely with and yet spiritual and Godly. You could talk about controvasial stuff and yet stay true to the Word of God. Conversations with you is never boring like with some religious Christian nor carnal like non-believers. You can strike the balance well and make any moments with you enjoyable. I will never forget the comment you said about me, "Wow! I never knew you could really talk!" Hahaha. That comment was pretty precious considering the fact that I used to be a geek who had no friends and could never know how to strike a conversation. You helped me to see the changes within me. I first knew you 3 years ago when we had combined CG meeting, but I only got to know you more when we met again during mass bible studies in the past few months. It is a tremedous blessing and honor to call you and Cinthia my friends.

Last of all, and the most important person I wanna thank, and that is GOD!!! For His mercy never fails, and He never forsake me despite my short-comings. Thank God for all these people whom He put into my life, without them and without God, I wouldn't be who I am today in Christ Jesus! Amen! God is Good!

Proverbs 27:17
As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
Slow and Steady

Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy.

They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and steady plodder.

It'd really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment.

They expect you to examine everything carefully from every angle and then usually decide against it.
Isn't that pretty true about me? Hahaha. Got to be more flexible!!! Then again, I do see some fine point about myself for being who I am. Hahaha. It's all about balancing your priorities.

I... Need... COFFEE!!!

When I can't stop yawning away today, I realised one thing... I am seriously addicted to coffee!!!. I had not drank coffee since Saturday morning, woke up sleepy today and forgot to took my regular dose. Suffered from caffeine withdrawal. I finally feel more awake now after drinking my 1st cup of coffee after more than 40+ hours!!! (Yes... probably will take a booster dose later to mug for my exams).

By the way, I wanna say

Thanks Cinthia for helping to get the bags for my members. Although one of the bag is not the right brand, my member like it nonetheless. My CGL said the Puma bag looks cool, very vintage. Hahaha.

And also, Thanks Briony!!! For helping to design the busing tags for COPE ministry. My CGL and I really appreciate it. Both of us are really busy and at our end's wits. Thanks for availing yourself.

Pastor mentioned something today that coincide with my revelation last week. He said he didn't even pray when someone offered him to go overseas to pastor another church. That's because he already knew what he need to do through the Word of God and what God had spoken to him.

Once again, it reminded me of how many Christians kept using the same old answer whenever they are asked to make a decision, "Let me pray about it." Yes yes... It sounds right, sounds holy (or "hole"ly). In reality, this phrase had being used so often that it no longer have the same meaning as it was used in the past, it had already become a clinque. In the past, people would reply like this when they have to make very crucial or important decision (Example, King David in the bible, also and many history making man of God for the past few centuries). Nowadays, everyone use it just to cover up their indecisiveness (some people do so just to put on a show to make people think they are "hole"ly), saying they will pray about things that already have an obvious answer, which makes many people very frustrated.

For examples,

CGL: You are not doing well for your studies, I think you should take a break from CG to concentrate for you upcoming exams. As a student, if you can't do well in your studies, you are really not glorifying God.

Member: Let me pray about it.

CGL: You should forgive your dad even thou he had not being a good father. The bible says you should forgive others and you should honor your parents.

Member: Let me pray about it.

CGL: I believe you can be strong and overcome your problem. Let me pray together with you and believe together with you to help you overcome this difficult times. If you have faith to believe and don't give up, I am sure God will make a way out.

Member: Let me pray about it.

CGL: The more you feel dry in your walk with God, the more you shouldn't be skipping church. You should do your best to come and seek the face of God.

Member: Let me pray about it.

CGL: Seriously, you should not be having a boyfriend/girlfriend who is a non-Christian. The bible said we shouldn't, because it will affect our walk with God.

Member: Let me pray about it.

The list is endless.

I actually wanted to go home straight after church today, to mug for my exams. However, I just feel pretty bored... Not really in the mood to study (due to the caffeine withdrawal???) so I decided to fellowship with my members.

Anyway, my CGL needs to give makeup CG to 2 of my members after church, she needed a guitarist and so I helped to play. Being really happy with this ministry. It's almost one month since I became the CG guitarist. My skills are not exactly fantasic, still requires HEAVY polishing but still good enough for the time being. I shall seek to polish up my skills after my exams next week. Hopefully by the end of next month, I can achieved much better results.

Thank God it's Friday Night!

Wanna say thanks to Cinthia for coaching me with my guitar. Probably never know how to play a decent praise song if not for her.

Anyway, during CG on Friday, I made one BIG mistake while playing praise. I forgot to change to a hard pentrum! By the time I realised it, I tried strumming harder but it was still too soft. I can hardly hear my own playing!!! I aruptedly stop the praise (BAD MOVE!) and change to a hard pectrum. My CGL was like "Oi!..."

Overnight prayer meeting's great!!! It's being a long time since church held an overnight prayer meeting. I was comtemplating to leave halfway cuz It had being a long tiring day for me, exams are nearing and none of my members will be staying beyond 1am. In fact, that is enough reason for anyone not to even attend prayer meeting.

Nonetheless, I believed that I could manage my time well and I already took ministry leave, I figure that I could very safely attend the prayer meeting (I can't study at night anyway :P) and seek God's face and stand in the gap to pray for my CG and church.

At least I get to see some familiar faces during prayer meeting. Was really happy to see Briony and Cinthia! Hahaha. Later after 1am, when some of the people left, Cinthia managed to get a seat for me so I wasn't alone. Got to know one of her member (or was it her ex-member?) Jacky (or is it spelled as Jackie?), who's really a witty chap to talk to. Making new friends made a great prayer meeting even better. :)

Prayed for a lot of items during prayer meeting. It started from 11pm and end at 5am, with 2 30min breaks in between. I didn't even feel tired throughout the prayer meeting! (I remembered Cinthia used to call this "talent" of mine inhuman :P). I was really throwing every ounce of energy to the praise and worship session and command every possible focus within me during prayer time. It was so refreshing, physically and spiritually after the prayer meeting. :)

There's one particular praise song that was introduced during the prayer meeting, it was so hype and I really love it! I went to check out it's lyrics and chords on Guitar4Christ and tried playing it on my guitar. It's pretty simple yet addictive!

Shine Like Stars
Jakarta Praise Community Church

Look at the world we live today
Look at the hurting everywhere
Let us see mercy and Your grace
Over flowing every place
Let us be one with You today
Let Your glory fall

(Chorus)
We will shine
Shine like the stars above
Shining in Your light
Guided by Your love
Let Your fire burn in us
Burning like a sun
As we glorify
Show Your Kingdom come
To all of the earth

Teach us to live in righteousness
Teach us to love in one accord
Guide us to live life everyday
As we worship in Your court
Let us declare Your majesty
Let Your glory fall

We will shine like the stars above
As we're burning like a sun

Later went to have breakfast with Cinthia. Learned to eat "you tiao" dipped in soy milk from her. It is really nice!!! The soy milk help to wash off the excess oil on the "you tiao", the "you tiao" absorded the hot soy milk and became soft, sweet and "soy" smooth!!!! Amazing taste and texture! Later I learnt from my mum that's the Taiwanese style of eating "you tiao". Hahaha. Got to try that again next time. :)

Friends Connection.

It is amazing how you can double guess what your friend is thinking even before he or she speaks up.

I read in a book about how a person could differentiate the voice of a friend and find him in a crowded noisy party. It is as if like you just know where that friend is.

Going out with the BBC is kinda like this. Like when Briony was just saying, "That's shoe is nice!", I just know which one she's talking about without her pointing it out. Cinthia could read to me what she had written over the phone and I could just say out what she wrote next even before she says it.

Telepathtic powers? Nah. I figure when you get to know someone long enough, you just happen to figure out what the other party's thinking. Of cuz it is not so accurate, I am no mind-reader, but I guess it's the effort a person puts in to know the other party better.

Nothing scary, it is not as if someone close to you will figure out all your secret or what, it is just the coordination that exist between 2 close friends, just lke how players in a team sports can coordinate their tactics after spending many hours of training together. It just makes someone feels special that you know what that person is going to say or is thinking about. This question never cease to amaze me, "How did you know?" Hahaha.

Oh, and the amazing thing today, I realise all 3 of us had a pretty hectic day and were all feeling tired at the same time. Somehow, it makes us understand each other since we all are tired.

Understanding and support, set apart and special, building and commitments, that's what friendship is about.

Ok... really tired now. I hope my post make sense. Hahaha.

Count down to 1st Allowance!!!

Started my exercise regime today with Cinthia in school. We met up on the school running track to run. I haven't being running for a long time so I was a little breathless after the run. However, thanks to all the stair-climbing regime that I did on my own, my legs are not feeling the pinch of muscle cramps or joint pains. (Stair climbing was really effective for shuttle runs!!! I had a timing of 9.7 seconds for my recent IPPT. Hahaha.)

I really lived quite a blessed life, my family love me a lot since I was the 1st child and 1st grandchild for both paternal and maternal side. I am always blessed with many good things. My maternal grandfather will just buy any toy for me if I were to stare at it for a while longer. Even as a "big boy" now, I still get "ang bao" during festive seasons such as lantern festival to "buy lanterns" (trust me, I got more than enough to but a dozen lanterns with the amount of money I recieved), incredible big "ang baos" during Chinese New Year, "ang baos" during my birthdays. God is good. Hahaha.

Thanks to sure a caring and giving family, I learnt the value of giving. I love to bless my friends as my family had blessed me. It doesn't matter even if I will be "broke" after getting something that a friend really like, a smile from that friend is all I need. Hahaha. To see others benefit at the expenses of self is such a wonderful feeling, no wonder my family just love to give and give, sacrifice upon sacrifice. Hahaha.

I will be getting my study sponsorship allowance soon. 3 months backpay + current month allowance!!! It is more than enough to cover my building fund, I can even fulfill the promise to double it and it is still more than enough! This is the highest amount I had given so far. I thank God for all the blessing that allow me to keep increasing my giving every building fund! God is Good!

So what to do with my remaining aboundance?... So much things I wanna get. Hahaha. But first of all, I already promised to treat Cinthia and Briony. Hahaha. I am still thinking what else I can get for the two of them. Not forgetting My CGL Irene and her adorable little boy, Kean!!! Then not forgeting my CG members. And always in my mind, my mum and the rest of my family members. So many people! Hahaha. Cinthia was even reminding me that I am only getting $x00 per month for my allowance and not $x000! Hahaha.

Nonetheless, I will still have to fork out for my $1000++ semestral school fees, travel expenses etc, so I am still pretty clear-headed. Don't worry I will overspend. Hahaha. I believe the more you sow, the more you reap. Give and it will be given unto you. God promised that and God had kept that promise for the past 5 yrs everytime without fail since I started my walk with Him. God is good. :)

A Wonderful Weekend, with a little "surprise" on Monday.

First of all,

Thank you CINTHIA and BRIONY for your gifts!!! Thanks for spending time with me on Sunday and make my birthday this year an EXTRAORDINARY one!!! Hahaha!

Not forgetting...

Thank you Lifeng!!! For the 2 new clothes for my birthday!!! You remembered!!! hahaha.

and then...

Thank you Fung Lun, Szemin and Phui Yun, for those vouchers!!! it will sure come in handy. :)

and of cuz...

Thank you N196 and IRENE!!! Your support never fails to make me a better person. And... So are your "surprises". hahaha!

I was so excited about my birthday that acutally forgot about the Psycho test today... But thank God I was quite alright with the regular revision and I managed to do one last revision on Monday itself. However, it is really STRESSFUL to "discover" that you forgot a test on the last minute. Hahaha. Thanks Thia and Briony for hearing me out when I was so stressful :) God is GOOD!

Life is like a "Bed of Roses".

First of all, I am going to change the music you hear on my blog once in a while because my friends mentioned that the previous music too depressing. Hahaha. Anyway, I am quite a RPG game maniac in the past, so all of the music you gonna hear from now onwards are going to be midis from various RPG games I ever played. hehehe

I wanna share a revelation of a vision I always keep having. This vision 1st came to me when I first heard pastor mention that Christian life is not a bed of roses. That was already a few years back and everytime I hear this metaphor, I will always see a bed of thorny roses. (in case you never seen roses in natural setting before, it is actually a vine plant with thorns.) At first, all I can try to discern this vision is that, "looks can be decieving" but never really felt that is what God is trying to say.

Now after a few years of bible studies, I hear the metaphor once more during cell group last Friday. Finally, I could percieve the message of this thorny bed of roses.

"The bed of roses is only as comfortable as the effort you put in to remove the thorns."

Our Christian walk is really like this, God give us this "bed of roses". It is easy to recieve it but not easy to enjoy it. God gave us His righteousness as a gift but to live a life of righteousness is another thing. The "thorns" in the "bed of roses" are the trials and testings that come along with the gift, but the tool to cut away these "thorns" is really prayers and leaning on the promises of God, that is reading His Words.

Like Paster Carl said, when we faces problems and challenges in life, we look to the Word of God for his promises. At first, we have to keep carrying the promises around, got to keep confessing it and meditating on it. God is good, He always make sure His promises come to pass and when the promise come true for you, you will have more faith to believe in that promise. The more you believe, the less the Word become a burden for you and it will eventually turn around and carry you through out your life instead!

So is the Bed of Roses. The more you cut away the thorns, the more comfortable it becomes. So look beyond the "thorns", see the beautiful rose above it. :)

Nursing Diagnosis in Lay Man's Term

I was helping my friend with her nursing diagnosis and care plan when the thought just came to me, "What if we don't use medical jargons but instead we use lay man terms for our nursing diagnosis ?"

Answer: Cannot make it.

Here's a few examples, (with the usual Singapore Engrish.)

Diarrhea related to something wrong with the stomach
As evidence by,
Subjective data: patient complain of stomach pain for 3 days, keep running to the toilet until legs weak, shit more than 4 times since last night and shit is like water.
Objective data: Patient was seen running to the toilet a few times since coming in to hospital. He shit like no body's business and his shit is like water, looks a bit like milk coffee but smells like rotten fish.

My Change in Priorities, Having Faith.

[About the previous post:] I may sound like I am depressed but I am not lah. Hahaha. Just one of my outlook in life on how people have unrealistic expectations towards others, especially their leaders. The post was an inspiration after reading one of the chapters in the Armor Bearer Series, where the author mentioned that many followers/helpers failed to see that their leaders are also imperfect human beings and instead of supporting them in times of difficulties, they criticized the leader of their short-comings.

Anyway, I came to realized that I am stepping out of my shell ever since I let go of a burden that I am not yet ready to shoulder; cell group leadership.

Back then, I was so conscious about how I "perform" in front of others; like how I would lead praise and worship etc, I tend to fumble and kept lamenting about how I could have done better.

One of the thing I had learnt (and I had learnt it the hard way), that is when you are serving God, if all you care about is how you performed in front of people, you will keep focusing on your faults and failed to focus on God.

That is how I come to lose my joy in serving God, made mistakes after mistakes. Finally, when I let go of all this, I tried to move on to something new, I tried to step out of my shell. Thou it is a little late to do so, but like Pastor Audrey said to me, "Better late than never." Hahaha.

I joined a new ministry called COPE, which you probably had realised by now if you have being reading my Blog. This amazing ministry brought back the joy of serving once again for it truly bring out my talent and passion to help people; which was also the reason why I wanted to be a nurse. I am no longer bothered with how others think I will do, for this ministry is not one that brings someone into the limelight. It is a ministry where your efforts are appreciated by only the people you serve and no one else can understand or even see the work you have done.

Just last week, my CGL asked me to play the guitar during CG meeting. I was never good at playing guitar, even now, I considered myself average. I always decline in the past to play the guitar during CG for fear that I will make mistakes during praise and worship (also the fact that I never had the thought to become a guitarist).

However, this time round, I decided to forgo fear and step into the realm of faith. I immediately agreed to it without hesitation.

Just in case you think I don't consult God or do things without thinking, let me clarify that I do! So how do I make my deciscion? Simply put, the Word of God is inside every believer. Most of the time, the answer you need to know is already in your heart. Why many believers hesitated to do things, always waiting for signs and wonders to confirm everything is because they failed to see that God don't "appear" in front of us all the time and start saying things like, "Go left", "Go right" is because He had already made many of His promises in the Bible. So instead of "listening" to God by studying the Bible, many believers act like a baby, waiting to be spoon-fed by saying that they will refuse to take action until God (or their pastors/leaders) "speaks" to them.

Of course I am not saying that prayers are not important. Pastor Kong said we live 90% by common sense and 10% by revelation. We are created in the likeness of God and thus also have the capacity to know right from wrong. Furthermore, as an intellectual being, we should be able to understand the Words written in the Bible. Most of the time, the request we made can easily be answered by God in three simple words, "Read the Bible!" No wonder so many people said God "don' t" answer their prayer. They just failed to realised that God already did!

Anyway, I made my decisions quickly base on these facts, truth and revelations.
-I do know how to play the guitar.
-God wants us to live by faith and not by fear.
-God says when there is a need, we should try to meet it.
-God mentioned that music is a very important part of worship.
-God gave me a personal revelation to do something different, to change my attitude.

I find that I am more confident in the things I do now. I think I did quite well for my 1st time playing guitar for CG. Anyway, I wasn't bothered about how my CG members will think, I was enjoying myself, singing loudly and soak in the presence of God, I couldn't care less. Hahaha.

To all the minister of God out there, enjoy your ministry! The Word of God lives in you.

Wanna Talk a Little About Myself...

Lets see... 1st or all, let me introduce myself.

I am a creature of Earth call HUMAN. In case you think I come from some other star systems, I don't.

As with other feral humans, I also feel happy, sad, angry and pressured. Just as imperfect as other humans.

But of cuz, I don't try to show forth the unpleasant side of humanity most of the time. It doesn't mean that I am much less human. I just try to show forth the better side of humanity most of the time.

Now... what is it that I really dislike most. Ya, when humans have this attitude that I came from the planet Krypton.

Nope, I am in no way related to Clarke Kent (Thou I wouldn't mind to have his looks). I may always try to do my best, I am in the limelight most of the time, BUT, I don't like the idea that other humans think I am infallible, think that I can do and know everything, think I am not suppose to be angry or sad.

Once in a while, I also wanna have time alone. Spend time with my closest of friends, rant at some unfair issues, or simply just wanna whine. Well, not many humans think I do that, but I do, and i NEED to do it.

Sometimes when you see that I am not acting like myself, it is cuz I may be burdened or simply feeling anything but happy. Don't worry, I am not morphing into some more powerful form or what. Neither had some mind-control bug took over me. I am still me, just that you happen to see the rare side of me. That's all. If anyone bothered to ask, I would simply shared it with them. If not, I will share it with my close friends, who are also fellow humans and the divine being whom I know personally as Yahweh. Oh, by the way, Yahweh was the one who created me. Hahaha.

So in summary, here's my planatery profile.

Home Cooking Made (TOO!) Simple.

(Last updated on 13 Oct 2005 1.) Added a new recipe "Booster Coffee" under "Simple Cooking for One".
(Do comeback to check for new updates on this post.)

1. Introduction.

First of all, if you think this is going to be some fancy food recipe thingy, you will be disappointed.

What you will find here is a guide on how you can dish up something simple with the limited ingredients and seasonings you can find in your local market.
(P.S. You can find most of the ingredients I mentioned at Shop'N"Save supermarket.)

This post should be helpful if:
1. You never cook before and want to try cooking.
2. You never pass your F&N or think it is a miracle if you pass it.
3. You don't really stock up a lot of ingredients at home and find shopping for groceries a chore.
4. You find all those cook books out there seems to be written in some alien language.
5. You are sick and tired of "instant" food and MSG.
6. You just want to cook up some simple dishes real fast with minimal hassle.

2. Seasonings you really need.

At least have these seasonings at home.
1. Light soya sauce. (A miracle seasoning!)
2. Sesame oil.
3. Cooking oil. (I recommend extra virgin olive oil, more frangrant and healthier but more expensive...)
4. Salt. (Great for washing meat and vegetables.)
5. Cooking wine. (I recommend Hua Tiao Chiew.)
6. Pepper.
7. Chopped garlic.
8. Preserved sliced ginger. (Great for removing fishy odour in meat.)
Note: I will recommend some other optional/nessary seasoning along the way.

Click here to have a look at the seasonings mentioned in this post.

3. Equipments you really need.

I don't know how you could cook without these...
1. Saucepan!!! (A medium size saucepan cook wonders! You can stir-fry, pan-fry, deep-fry, boil, sautee, just about everything you can do with a wok! Great for cooking for 1 to 2 people. Invest on a good, non-stick teflon saucepan today!)
2. Wok. (For heavy-duty cooking and when cooking for 3 or more people.)
3. Chef knife. (I recomend getting those that have a smooth cutting edge and not those that have jagged cutting edge. You can get flints to sharpen a smooth cutting edge chef knife and make slicing and dicing so much easier!)
4. Chopping board. (Obviously.)

Some optional equpiment that can further simplify cooking.
1. Steam cooker.
2. Convection, multipurpose microwave.
Click here to have a look at the equipments mentioned in this post.

4. Before you start. (Read this!!!)

Note:
I will only give an estimated amount required for the ingredient metioned. It is really up to personal preference whether you prefer more meat, more vegetable, saltier, lighter etc. Also, the amount you want to use depend on your appetite and how many people you are serving. This is HOME COOKING after all.

Washing:
When you wash any ingredient, soak it in salt water for about 5 to 10mins first. Later rinse it in tap water to remove dirt or any strong odour. Remember to drain it dry. Water and hot oil can bring about unpleasant effect.

Marinating:
The easiest way to marinate meat would be to add light soya sauce, sesame oil and pepper to it. The longer you allow the marinated meat to stand, the stronger the flavour. To keep food fresh, let marinated meat stand in the refrigerator. Simple?
Note: Meat refer to chicken, pork or fish in my context. Aviod using strong smelling meat such as duck, beef and mutton if you do not know how to process them.
(E.g. 200g of meat would require 1/2 table-spoon of light soya sauce, dashes of sesame oil, dashes of grounded pepper. Allow the meat to stand for at least 30mins. The amount is really up to individual preference.)

Measuring:
Click here to have a look at the measuring tools mentioned in this post.

Ingredients:
Vegetables are much simpler to prepare than meat. If you are not very confident in cooking, I suggest you use more vegetables and less meat in your dishes. It saves you the problem of:
1. Poorly flavour/marinated meat.
2. Meat being under-cooked.
3. Meat that become too tough due to over-cooking.
4. Meat turning bad due to poor selection or poor processing.
5. Overpowering fishy smell due to poor processing.
Click here to have a look at the ingredients mentioned in this post.

8. Special noteworthy recipes from others.

Re: Simple Fried Rice (from Jaywalker)
Allow me to recommend a slight change.
Replace cooked rice with chicken rice. Ask the chicken rice seller for the rice right at the bottom of the thermo-rice-bucket where it is DAMN BLADDY oily(!). Usually they will grant your request (though with a raised eyebrow) since they can't sell that portion of the rice anyway.
The oil in the rice would mean that you need very little (if not none at all) cooking oil and sesame seed oil.

Pro-Rights (Pro-Abortion) Vs. Pro-Rights (Anti-Abortion) Debates.

I was part of a graded debate in class on the 3rd Oct '05, Monday. The topic as you can see is "Pro-Rights Vs. Pro-Life". I am one of the speaker of the affirmation team, which means that I am to make statements supporting abortion.

1st of all, I am a Christian, I don't support abortion. Sadly... I was the one in my team who came up with the most points to rebut "Pro-Rights" claim. I categorized 8 different viewpoints into 8 cards which I can easily pass to my team members if they need it to rebut any of the opposition speaker. Our team was praised for our great rebuttal effort at the end of the debate... I wished I could have being the opposition team thou...

I had a good friend, Briony, who is also a Christian. She study fashion design and had to be exposed to controversial themes and styles. She mentioned that as a designer and a Christian, it is important to keep your Christian values and yet keep an open mind to worldly issues in the fashion industry.

Here I am, as a health care trainee, I have to keep my sanity to debated with passion like a non-Christian. However it taught me one thing, although Christians are anti-abortion (and I am anti-abortion) but there are many people out there who don't share the same view. We can only influence them and not force them to make such decisions. God after all gave humans freewill.

For study purpose, let's have a look at the SCENARIO of the debate.

Mrs. Tan, a 37 year-old bank manager, is 10 weeks pregnant. Ultrasound scan showed that the baby was of the female sex. Mrs. Tan already has 3 daughters. Both she and her husband want a son. Mrs. Tan decided to have an abortion. Another reason she cited is that she needs to travel abroad often for work. She felt that she will not be able to cope with this 4th pregnancy and parenthood.
STATEMENT:
Abortion should be a decision made by the pregnant woman. The mother's rights should prevail.

I will not go through with te details of the points being brought up in the debate (I can't remember anyway). But here are the 8 possible viewpoints the opponent team can try to come up with and how I had planned to rebut them. The points which was brought up during the debate will be coloured red where else those that were not mentioned will be in cyan.

Religion is Against Abortion?
Ø Christianity believes that God gave man freewill. Islam advocate peace and is against forceful actions. Religion does not compile people to believe if they do not want to.
Ø Section 15 of the Constitution of The Republic of Singapore states that every individual has the right to religion freedom.
Ø Therefore, no one have the rights to force their religious belief, be it abortion or smoking or drinking so long as it does not violate the Laws.

Foetus Rights?
Ø Dr. Parker states that the foetus is incapable to live when separated from the mother and therefore it is part of the mother. Like a finger or toe. Being part of the mother, the mother thus has the right to decide what she wants to do with the foetus.
Ø Lewis said that the foetus is only a potential human and not an actual human and thus have no actual human rights.
Ø E.g. A 10yr old child is a potential voter before he reaches 21yrs old. However, until he reaches 21yrs old, he cannot exercise the right to vote.

The Foetus is Alive? Abortion is Murder?
Ø The foetus is alive, it can feel pain, it is flesh and blood, it has human DNA… and so is our arms, our legs and our organs!
Ø Dr. Parker states that the foetus is incapable to live when separated from the mother and therefore it is part of the mother. Like a finger or toe.
Ø E.g. If a limb is gangrenous, the patient is advised to remove it to prevent it from causing more harm. If the foetus is going to be the cause of physical or psychological hurt to both the mother and the baby, shouldn’t the mother have the rights to abortion in this case?
Ø [MURDER?] Also, cutting off a finger or any of your own body part is not murder! According to the Law, abortion is not considered murder. Murder is the killing of an actual human being, not a potential human being like the foetus.

Danger of Abortion?
Ø Abortion is dangerous, giving birth is also dangerous! Labour complications can also be fatal!
Ø WHO states that more than half a million women died in pregnancy or childbirth.
Ø If abortion is discouraged because it is risky, then giving birth should also be discouraged.
Ø And if that’s the case, sex lead to pregnancy and pregnancy leads to labour, might as well ban sex.

Government Encourage More Babies?
Ø In a democratic country, The Government can only encourage and not force couples to have more babies.
Ø According to the case scenario, the client already have 3 children, aren’t they already heeding the call to have more babies?
Ø The Law states that abortion is legal; no one can be above the Law.
Ø Anyway, the Government did not out rightly discourage abortion, they only encourage more babies.

The Law States That It Is Illegal to Abort a Foetus that is above 24 weeks?
Ø Please stay within the context of the case scenario, our client is only 10 weeks pregnant and therefore have the right to abort. We felt that the opposition has cited this point out of context.

Father’s Right?
Ø Abortion is a procedure performed on the women’s body. No one, not even the husband can make the decision for the client.
Ø Even in nursing ethnic, we have to advocate the client’s right to privacy and not interfere with the client’s decision making.

Emotions?
Ø No one have the rights to force their emotion on someone else.
Ø You sympathy for the unborn foetus need not necessary means the mother must feel the same way as you do.
Ø What is someone’s joy may be someone else's misery.
Ø E.g. the end of a war means the coming of peace and the end of bloodshed. However, the country that had victory will rejoice but the defeated country will be mourning.

As I am in the pro-rights team, the arguements are mostly for pro-abortion. Let me say this again, I am anti-abortion and pro-life. I set up this post to create awareness to the kind of opposing viewpoints people could have and I believe it is important to know how pro-abortionist could argue if you are also an anti-abortionist like me.

How to Answer Nuisance Calls?

Have you ever recieved calls asking to speak to someone whom you didn't even know?
Does it happen to you not just once but quite frequently?
Worst, it seems like these calls are always looking for the same person?

That is the problem with many "new numbers". Most of the time, whenever you apply for a new number, you are always given "recycled" number instead. "Recycled" numbers are numbers that have being previously used by other people. As to how many people already used that number, no one knows for sure. Thus, you may experience people always looking for a certain "Mr. Tan" or "Muthy" or "whosoever" and all you can tell them is "Sorry, wrong number." or "No such person."

Here's some creative suggestions as to how you could answer such "persistant" phone calls. Some may even stop such calls totally if you say it with much... "realism". Hahaha. Here are a few ways to answer such phone calls my friends and I have suggested and even tried!
  1. "Hello, Muthu's Curry!"
  2. "Bukit Batok Police Station. How may I help you?"
  3. "Institute of Mental Health. How may I help you?"
  4. "Hi sweetie... Thank you for calling Hot Dates... You will be charged $1 for every minute starting from now..."
  5. "Thank you for your kind and generous donation. Your donation of $100 will be reflected on your phone bill."
  6. "This is the Singapore Telecom announcement service. The number you just called is not in use."
  7. "Ah Hock Casket and Undertaker! Christian or Buddhist?"

And here is one interesting incident that happen to my friend's husband. They kept getting this kind of call and finally, he could no longer stand it.

Caller: Hello! Wo ai cher Ah Tan! (I want to find Ah Tan!)

Reciever: Wo si Ah SEOW. (I am Mad One.)

According to my friend, the caller was very shock and quickly put down the phone.

Your Ideal Relationship is Marriage

You've dated enough to know what you want.
And that's marriage - with the right person.
You're serious about settling down some time soon.
Even if you haven't met the person you want to get hitched to!

Oh my goodness. Hahaha.
Your Seduction Style: Prized Object

The seduction game you play is tried, true, and still effective: hard to get.
You know that the best seducers turn the tables - and get their crush to seduce them.
The one running has the power, and you're a challenge that is worth the chase.

You are a master of enticing and pulling back. Giving a little and taking some away.
You are controlled enough to know rewards come after a long seduction dance.
Even though you want to call, email, or say "I love you" first - you don't!

You're style is the perfect mix of hot and cold - so much so that you have many suitors.
Think Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's ... or any of those creepy guys from the Bachelor.
You're skilled at inspiring a chase. The real test is picking the person to slow down for.
P.S. To Thia, yes yes, indeed something dumb to do when you are bored. Hahaha.
